KAMPALA – Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a senior UPDF officer was knocked dead on Sunday evening.
According to police, Abdul Kawawa, a UPDF Lieutenant Colonel, was knocked dead by a speeding vehicle while taking a stroll in Namugoona, Rubaga Division in Kampala at around 8pm.
The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, said the unidentified driver who hit the UPDF officer abandoned the vehicle at the accident scene.
Mr Owoyesigyire said they have recorded statements from several witnesses and soon the runaway driver will be arrested.
He could not ascertain whether the incidental was intentional. Hit and run incidents are becoming common. In August, anunknown driver hit and seriously injured a motorcycle rider and his passenger along Kamwokya-Ntinda road. Police identified the victims as Abubaker Mugisha, a member of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi’s Kamwokya based Fire Base Crew and his passenger, Emmanuel Tumwesigye, 35.
