
KAMPALA —Journalists call for an investigation into the use of live rounds to disperse a protest on Tuesday morning resulting in the death of a journalist.
The media fatality has been identified as David Kibuuka, a villae information officer.
He was allegedly hit by a bullet while covering the protest and died on spot.
It is reported that Police shot at the protestors who attempted to force their way onto the premises of Shreeji Stationers 2009, whose owners they blamed for blocking roads and drainage systems causing to flood.
Police us yet to issue any statement regarding the shooting.
UJA President Bashir Mbaziira Kazibwe has described the incident as unfortunate as said he would share a statement soon.
The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA), an umbrella body for journalists in Uganda last month announced a boycott of all police related activities following the recent incidents of rights violations against media practitioners.
Mr. Kazibwe urged all reporters covering crime and police related activities to withhold their services until the force gives safety assurances to the journalists.
