KAMPALA —The afternoon session of FAO-China 10th anniversary summit happening at Munyonyo got off to a delayed start on Tuesday after last-minute negotiations averted a possible boycott by delegates after some of them missed food due to limited coupons by organisers.
Delegates and journalists who had missed on coupons for lunch accused the National organising Committee “of the negligence of duty and lack of respect.”
The conference finally resumed more than two hours after organizers who were embarrassed by the level of disorganization secured a few coupons for foreign delegates while local visitors including journalists remained unattended to.
A number of delegates were seen protesting the massive disorganization by Uganda after they were told to write their names down and wait patiently.
Some journalists who missed food instead deleted the footage and left Munyonyo.
Another delegate said he had enjoyed Uganda until “this disorganization disappointed me.”
The event was organized by FAO, Ministry of Agriculture and State House.
Gen. Charles Agina the deputy coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation and FAO country representative Dr. Anonio Querido were seen pleading with the delegates to save the country from the massive embarrassment.
President Yoweri Museveni who officially opened the event had earlier blasted the organizers on the same.
Turning to Luganda, Museveni told Mr. Vicenet Ssempijja who is the Agriculture minister to immediately ensure that delegates are served with local bananas during the conference and other local meals.
“You minister, why don’t you give our guests what we have. Naye muli awo mu makooti! Hmm, [you’re just there in your coats],” he said adding that “this is our chance to market what we have”.
