
KAMPALA – The family of the Human Rights Commission boss has said that Med Kaggwa who died on Wednesday morning after he allegedly collapsed in his car, will be laid to rest on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 2:00 pm in Mpigi District.
According to his young brother Hajji Kateregga, a vigil will be held tonight for the deceased at their ancestral home in Mpigi.
The body of Kaggwa has been taken to Mulago hospital to carry out postmortem.
Mr. Kaggwa, who is a former Kawempe South MP, was pronounced dead by doctors at Case Hospital where he was rushed on Wednesday morning.
Dr. Patrick Kaliika of Case Medical Centre said the deceased was taken to case ICU while unresponsive and still on basic life support.
By the time Case Medical Centre took over, he said there were no vital life signs detected but the team carried out advanced life support for one hour until he was pronounced dead at 9:00 am.
Dr Kaliika quoting family sources, he said that the deceased had been on treatment for hypertension. His death is not yet known and a post-mortem is yet to be carried out.
Sources said Mr. Kaggwa was expected to attend and present at the World Children’s day conference that was organized by UNICEF.
Kaggwa knocked a car (a Toyota Wish) that was ahead of him. Passengers had to break into his car to get into it since he had locked himself inside.
Until the time of his death, Kaggwa had served as chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission for more than 8 years.
