KAMPALA —Several Ugandans have urged the people of Sheema Municipality to vote out their current MP, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, come next election accusing him of greed and selfishness following a letter that showed that he is a bail out from President Museveni.
In the letter, which is dated June 2019, Dr Tumwesigye, who is also the minister for science, technology and innovations, is appealing to the President for financial help to settle debts worth Shs850m accruing from the Sheema municipality by-election, in which he defeated FDC’s Virginia Plan.
However, the matter has drawn outright condemnation from the public. Dr Tumwesigye had been MP for Sheema North but left it to contest in the newly created municipality.

Amwine Moses wrote: “It is a crime to mix personal business with state affairs/funds.”
Barya Mills said: “He was already an MP; what point was he making to borrow such huge sums of money from the peasants’ SACCO to become what he was already? Now, because of greed, he has been thrown out of Parliament.”
Rogers Kayondo said: “Wabula Uganda erimu abasabiriza! You’ll find this one teaching the youth to overcome poverty of which even he can’t do the same.”
Kajjo Darious said: “It is not a crime but a bad example to society that pays the tax.”
Adolf Ayoleka said: “Who told him to spend in the elections aimlessly.”
Wanzala Gazza Julius : “He’s a minister. They don’t understand the burden they put upon the head of state. Personal debts.”
Danny Kyazze added: “It’s not a crime, its stupidity. Politics is not business. Why borrow to get into parliament?”
