LYANTONDE —After a successful recruitment exercise on day one in Lyantonde on Friday December 27, which qualified 53 recruits to join the UPDF from the 3 districts of Rakai, Kyotera and Lyantonde, the UPDF recruitment team one under Brig Gen Emmanuel Kazahura proceeded to the defacto capital of greater Masaka where the five districts of Masaka, Kalungu Bukomansimbi, Lwengo and Kalangala converged at the Masaka recreation Stadium.
As early as 7:00am, more than 500 youths had already thronged the stadium waiting for the official flag off of the exercise by the RDC where 84 slots were at stake.
The team leader Brig Gen Emmanuel Kazahura addressed the expectant youths about the procedures of conducting the exercise including the Do’s and Dont’s.
Brig Kazahura assured the aspiring recruits of a fair hearing of every one who turned up for the exercise. “Treat everyone who turned up fairly and justly”. He ordered his team.
Brig Kazahura further emphasized that local leaders were involved in the exercise to ensure that the candidates they recommended are the very ones being interviewed.
He told the attentive youths that, candidates who possessed national identity cards from the five districts would be given priority as long as they fulfilled other requirements.
The kind of transparency left the residents dismayed by the level of integrity under which the exercise is being conducted.
While Representing his fellow RDCs from the five disteicts, the RDC of Lwengo Mr.Juuko Kasiita thanked the UPDF for the transparency of the exercise which he said will help have soldiers recruited on merit.
He further urged all government agencies to emulate the UPDF in their recruitment policies.
The RDC implored candidates to be disciplined during and after the exercise.
Team one will move to Mpigi tomorrow to handle the districts of Butambala, Gomba, Mpigi and Ssembabule.
