
MPIGI — Four people, including two children, died on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding on was knocked by a truck in Mpigi District on Kampala-Masaka road.
The deceased have been identified as Catherine Nakayiza,10, a one Shadia, 9, the motorcycle rider only identified as Kasagga and another passenger, Denis Lubyayi.
The accident occurred at Nabusanke Trading Center.
According to a one Male Jaberi, an eyewitness, the deceased were traveling on a motorcycle registration number UBU 530G, coming from Kyazanga heading to Mpigi Town Council, before being knocked by a sand truck registration number UDF 334F.
Traffic Police picked up the bodies and took them to Gombe Hospital mortuary for postmortem pending further investigations.
A traffic policeman who preferred anonymity because he’s not the official police spokesperson says the driver of the vehicle ran away after causing the accident.
The incident comes about two weeks after five people died in a motor accident at Nkoni Village on Mbarara-Masaka road.
The accident that involved a bus Reg. No. Number UAU 523H belonging to Global Bus Company and a Toyota Noah Registration Number UAN 429H occurred at 3pm.
It left three other people injured. In the process, an on-coming bus that was travelling from Kampala, knocked it.
According to Mr Paul Kangave, the Southern Regional Police spokesperson, the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Noah made a U-turn.
