ENTEBBE — The ruling NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) convenes ahead of the delegates conference.
According to NRM spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa, the meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00am at State House Entebbe and will be chaired by the Party chairman President Yoweri Museveni.
Although the agenda of the meeting is still not clear, sources the CEC will discuss the Delegates Conference agenda.
Sources say one of the top agendas is the discussion on the fate rebels Members Members of Parliament in the wake of the blocking from attending the party delegates conference due Saturday 25.
Last week, the party legal director advised legislators who voted against the lifting of the presidential age limit should be allowed to attend the party’s National Delegates Conference.
Oscar Kihika, the NRM legal director, in an internal memo sent to the party secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba, said the MPs are entitled to attend the conference.
It also includes lining behind candidates contesting for different positions in the party as opposed to the current system of secret ballot.
Previous NRM party primaries have been punctuated by fistfights, allegations of rigging, bribery, court cases among others. The party also says that the exercise requires a lot of money to pull off.
A similar amendment was made in the Local Government’s Act that saw LCI councils elected throughout the country in 2017 by lining behind the candidates.
During the meeting, sources said the CEC is also decide on those vying for party Vice Chairmanship in different parts of the country.
