
KAMPALA —Justice Mike J. Chibita on Monday, January 27, 2020 handed over the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to Mr. Charles Elem, the deputy director of Public Prosecutions.
Justice Chibita, who became the Director of Public Prosecutions in 2013, was recently appointed Justice of the Supreme Court.
He has held the position for six years within which he has made various reforms that he is commended for including regional offices, introduction of case backlog reduction strategies, implementation of the Revised ODPP Structure and Prosecution Case Management System (PROCAMIS) among others.
According to Ms Jacquelyn Okui, the Ag. Principal State Attorney/PRO, Mr Elem-Ogwal will serve in acting capacity until the President appoints another DPP.
Mr Ogwal joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions soon after it became an independent office. Between 1985 and 1992, he was General/Registrar of Companies in charge of Field Offices and International Affairs.
Soon after, he was appointed to the United Nations where he worked with the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) until 2007.
