KAMPALA – Regarding the numerous road accidents caused by motorcycles locally known as boda bodas, Makerere University’s College of Education and External Studies (CEES) has on Friday, January 24 disclosed its plan to establish an online study course for all boda boda riders.
The online course is expected to start in June so as to equip boda boda riders with knowledge and skills so as to reduce the numbers of cases of road accidents.
Paul Muyinda, Deputy Principal College of Education said, “the course will involve mobile learning and the use of applications to manage road safety and accidents. The riders will also be able to acquire safety tips on entrepreneurship of their business and how to improve their transportation skills.”
The college will partner with the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) which will combine deas with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Ministry of Gender.
This new development is part of the 30 billion shillings that was added on the university’s budget by the government to improve research and come up with new innovations. With this in action, road accidents are expected to reduce and boda boda riders will be able to save money spent on compensation to invest and earn from their business.
