GULU – President Yoweri Museveni has appealed universities to teach courses that solve key societal issues.
Museveni was speaking at the 15th graduation ceremony of Gulu University at the institution’s main grounds in Gulu Town on Saturday, January 11.
“My appeal to universities is that you should design and teach courses that solve our key societal issues,” said Mr President.

“You should produce graduates who provide answers to key human needs–in the four broad sectors of agriculture, industry, services and ICT,” he added.
At this function, the university passed out a total of 1,513 graduates who received certificates, diplomas and degrees.
Museveni advised young students to focus more on the science courses.
“The government cannot fail to support the teaching of sciences and research. Some of the humanity courses simply stretch out education budget and yet produce graduates who will need further re-tooling to be absorbed in the job market,” he said.
The president said that the government will support the university’s efforts to acquire more land for expansion and help it build a teaching hospital.
“We shall also contribute Shs100m to the staff SACCO,” he pledged.
