KAMPALA – President Museveni has invited former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi to attend the upcoming NRM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
NEC is the ruling party’s top decision-making body and according to NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba, the party constitution gives the chairman leeway to invite five special guests to the party’s meeting.
“Article 12(2)P of the NRM Constitution gives the National Chairman the right to invite not more than 5 individuals who have made special contributions to the struggle to attend the NEC meeting,” Ms Lumumba said on Wednesday evening while appearing on UBC Television from 9-10 pm.
Mbabazi was NRM Secretary-General for 10 years before he fell out with Museveni and stood against him for the presidency in 2016 but lost. Recently, the two have held several meetings, a sign that they could soon be back together in the same government.
The other invited special guests include former Vice Presidents Specioza Wandira Kazibwe and Gilbert Bukenya, former Prime Minister Kintu Musoke and former Kampala Central Legislator Francis Babu.
“We shall be grateful to receive them as our special guests during NEC meeting”, she added. NEC convenes this Friday, January 24, 2020, in Entebbe.
