
KAMPALA – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) UNEB chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol has revealed that candidates whose results for the year 2019 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) that have been withheld shall appear before the UNEB Security Committee for interrogation.
Prof. Okwakol said that candidates and schools whose PLE results were withheld will be summoned on designed dates starting Monday, February 3 to explain themselves before they commit.
The board is preparing to give a hearing to the affected candidates and schools and those that will be exonerated their results shall be released, while those who will be proved to have copied will be punished in accordance with section 4(3) of the UNEB Act 137.
A total of 1,262 results have been withheld UNEB on allegations that candidates were involved in examination malpractices.
She said Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics have been most affected with the common cases of external assistance, collusion among candidates, impersonation and script substitution.
“Hearings of the withheld results will be done in accordance with the UNEB board decision, we shall expect the affected candidates with their headteachers to come for these hearings,” said Prof. Okwakol.
Ms. Okwakol, however, noted that cases of malpractice have reduced compared to the previous years and that the overall performance in the UCE 2019 examinations was better than that of the previous year.
“The 2019 UCE examination was conducted smoothly and free from leakage,” she noted.
A total of 337,720 candidates registered for the UCE examinations in 2019, but only 333,060 sat for the examinations.
