
KAMPALA – Buganda Kingdom’s former Attorney General and Deputy Kattikiro city lawyer Apollo Makubuya has been dragged to the Land Division of the high court over alleged land grabbing.
The Executive Director of the Kabaka Foundation, Ambassador Matia Lubega who filed the suit on November 15, 2019, accuses Mr. Makubuya, Buganda Land Board Limited and Buganda Kingdom Minister in charge of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Kyewalabye Male of conniving to fraudulently take over his land situated on Block 268 Plot 475 Kyadondo in the upscale Lubowa neighborhood along Entebbe Road.
The land in question is valued at about UGX. 5.3 billion.
Ambassador Lubega who alleges that he is the rightful owner of the land located on Block 268 Plot 475 Kyadondo in the upscale Lubowa neighborhood along Entebbe Road wants the court to order Makubuya and his co-accused to pay UGX.480 million per year for the period he has illegally occupied the land.
On top of the compensation, Lubega wants UGX. 8m as special damages.
He also asks the court to order the Buganda Land Board and Makubuya to pay exemplary and aggravated damages.
His lawyers of MS/ Kituuma, Magala & Co. advocates claimed the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi in his wisdom and authority rewarded their client Mr. Lubega for his diligent work as Executive Director Kabaka foundation by directing the Buganda land Board to allocate to the plentiful the land described as Block 268 Plot 475 Kyadondo.
Lubega says that the Buganda Land Board on orders of Mr. Makubuya defied the Executive orders of the Kabaka of Buganda to fraudulently acquire this land.
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi in a recent reshuffle fired lawyer Apollo Makubuya from the position after reports that he was putting the kingdom at risk.
During his tenure, Buganda Kingdom faced a number of legal suits related to land.
