KAMPALA – Mr Sulaiman Kidandala has said he is still the organising secretary of the Democratic Party (DP) despite being suspended by the party’s top leadership.
Mr Kidandala was on February 14 suspended by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on grounds that he defied the party directives and issued parallel register books causing confusion which has affected implementation of the party roadmap. He was replaced by his deputy Shafiq Ddembe.
But speaking in a meeting organized by Masaka DP leadership at the weekend, Mr Kidandala said that he is still the substantive organising secretary and is currently traversing the country to oversee the ongoing internal grass root party elections.
Kidandala also dismissed his suspension as a witch hunt. “We have the obligation of making this party stronger than it has ever been, and we are committed to accomplishing that task by all means. But you equally have the duty to remain consistent and disregard any efforts that intend to stand in our ways towards achieving those objectives,” he said.
The Masaka District DP leadership also suspended their district party chairperson, Mr Fred Mukasa Mbidde, accusing him of incompetence and failure to convene meetings.
“Effective today February 22, 2020, Mr Fred Mukasa Mbidde is no longer the chairperson of Masaka District DP branch, district delegates who elected him have withdrawn the authority until further notice,” Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja said.
