KAMPALA – A man who was shot in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, on Tuesday evening was set to wed his fiancé Betty this year.
Daniel Kazibwe, who was wearing jeans and a Uganda Cranes jersey, was shot dead near Bank of Africa, opposite Tuskys Supermarket in Nansana Town as police, working with LDUs, were trying to disperse a crowd of People Power supporters who had gathered to cheer the convoy of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.
Mr Kyagulanyi and his supporters were returning from Kiboga District for the burial of Ritah Nabukenya, a People Power supporter, who died on Monday in a motor crash.
Family friends, who refused to be identified, told this website on Wednesday that Kazibwe was in May last year introduced by her fiancé Betty in a colorful ceremony and the wedding was set for this year.
Police in a brief statement on their official social media platforms, said they are still investigating the motive of the shooting.
“Police in Nasana has registered an incident of murder by shooting around Masitowa, Nansana. The motive of the shooting is not yet established. However, the body of the victim has been taken to city mortuary Mulago,” the statement read in part.
Several witnesses of the incident and People Power leaders accused police of killing the “Innocent man.”
“What a country! What a time! This evening as we returned from the burial of Ritah Nabukenya who was murdered by police yesterday, police and LDU personnel shot at the crowd of people who were waving at me around Nansana. Our brother, Dan Kyeyune died on spot. Others sustained severe injuries. It is a very dark night here. These are very tough times comrades, we shall only sail through them by being tougher,” Bobi Wine posted on his Facebook page.
