
KAMPALA — Businessman Sudhir Rupaleria has been appointed Honorary Counsul of Republic of Nepal to Uganda, in a move aimed at strengthening economic, cultural and tourist links between the countries.
The tycoon will be inaugurated in March 2020 at a ceremony in Kampala to be presided over by His Excellency Ambassador Jhabindra Aryal Rajdoot, the ambassador of Egypt.
Mr. Rajdoot has also been caretaking for Uganda.
Dr Sudhir was appointed by the president of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
An honorary consul is someone designated by a foreign government to look after the affairs of their citizens in foreign countries.
For example, they also handle issues like visas and trade.
In most cases, they are local people designated by a foreign governments to represent their interests in a foreign country.

The businessman has had longtime ties with Napel and in March 2019, Dr. Sudhir took a holiday to one of the Asian tigers where he also visited an orphanage centre in Katmandu and handed out scholastic materials.
A known conservationist who supports the likes of Ngamba Chimpanzee sanctuary in Uganda, Sudhir also visited a baby elephant sanctuary in Napel.
