MUKONO – Not even the heavy downpour on Monday could deter Mukono Resident Judges David Batema and Patricia Basaza from wallowing in the mud to receive a Mukono District Council Instrument giving the Judiciary land for the much-awaited construction of High Court.
A three-man delegation from the district, led by the Council Speaker, Mr Mbonye Emmanuel, delivered the Instrument and Minute of the Council to the Judges at a small occasion at the Mukono Chief Magistrate Court. The land donated measures about an acre and is on a leasehold title for 37 years.
The district councilors pledged to formalize the transfer considering the urgency of the matter. Hajji Lukeman applauded the court officials for serving the people of Mukono under the difficult circumstances.
Since its establishment, Mukono High Court has been operating in rented premises, which lacked the basics necessary for the running of a Modern court.
Justice Batema thanked the district for accommodating the request of the court. He emphasized that the High Court Circuit now has two resident judges because of the high demand for legal services.
Justice Basaza added that the move was very timely and it shall without a-doubt improve the security of not only the judicial officers but also the court users.
The news was received with a lot of excitement by all the court staff and the Advocates.
