KAMPALA – The Internal Security Organization(ISO) has arrested a German national on allegations that he has been working with subversive elements in the People Power movement to incite violence.
Julian Friesinger was picked up from Lira where he was allegedly mobilising youth to lead more protests in the country.
Friesinger was then driven to ISO headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala for interrogation.
A source that is part of the interrogation but who requested anonymity said that the German national was found exchanging emails with People Power movement spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi on several political issues which are a subject of investigations. He declined to provide details.
The source added that Friesinger during interrogation claimed that he is a student doing research as he completes his PhD Studies. The source also revealed that this is contrary to what they found in his email exchange with Ssenyonyi.
But Ssenyonyi, when contacted, insisted that Friesinger is a student who is here for research. He said ISO is free to invite him over the matter.
Ssenyonyi also accused of being fearful of anything because of overstaying in power.
ISO Director General Col Frank Kaka Bagyenda confirmed the arrest, adding that Friesinger has been handed over to the German embassy for deportation.
He said that whereas Friesinger claimed that he is a student, he was found without a letter authorising him to conduct the study.
