
KAMPALA — Rev. Fr. Vincent Lubega (M.Afr) Namugongo Parish Priest has announced that the shrine doors will be closed and Sunday’s worship services will be held online instead to protect churchgoers from the spread of the virus.
For the next 30 days, commencing 20 Friday, March, Rev. Fr Lubega said the shrine will be closed and that all Masses in the Shrine and sub-parish churches are suspended including all liturgical gatherings.
He said, however, there will be live streaming of Masses on Sunday at 8:00am in Luganda and 10:00am in English and week days at 1:00pm on the Shrine Facebook Page: Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Namugongo.
He added that Sunday and daily Mass readings will also be provided on the same page and the priests serving at the Shrine will be available daily at the Shrine premises for individuals who want to meet them.
He also encouraged all the faithful to hold private prayers in their homes and follow the live streaming programmes on electronic media.
Suspended activities
He said all gates at the Shrine and parish offices will remain closed, except the main entrance accessible to individuals who wish to engage in private / personal prayers, reflection or adoration.
Authorities have also put on halt all the general married couples’ counseling programmes on Saturdays but he said, individual couples’ meetings with priests still stand.
“All weddings, Choir practices, Charismatic prayer meetings and legion of Mary gatherings have been suspended prayers to Mother Mary should be held in homes with limited numbers, he said adding that ” all catechism activities are suspended but for any inquiries catechists’ leaders can be contacted on the following numbers: 0776 952911 and 0752 940505″.
Pilgrims office is closed and all activities suspended for the next 30 days.
