KAMPALA – The State minister for Sports, Mr Denis Hamson Obua, has said he will not yet touch the Shs20m disbursed to legislators to deal with COVID-19.
Mr Obua, who is also Ajuri county MP, said he will respect the decision of the Civil Division of the High Court that has asked Parliament not to touch the funds.
Obua said should a window of opportunity open on the funds, he will add on his personal resources and purchase more hand hoes and distribute to his constituents, a project which has been ongoing. Obua said hand hoes will aid his electorates to kick out poverty through agriculture.
This week, court asked parliament to halt utilizing the 10b shillings which translates to shillings 20m for each mp following a petition by Erute South MP Jonathan Odur and his colleague Gerald Karuhanga.
Nyabushozi representative Rtd.Col.Fred Mwesigye has also returned the UGX20m, saying he supports facilitation of MPs to fight #COVID_19 but only disagreed with the process.
“True to my word, I returned the money to Bank of Uganda Parliamentary Commission Account . Whereas I support that Members of Parliament should be facilitated to join the war against Covid 19, I disagreed with the way that money was smuggled into the budget. If it had come from the commission, i wouldn’t have had a problem.” Mwesigye said.
