KAMPALA – National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary-General Rt. Hon Justine Kasule Lumumba, Dr. Gerald Blacks Siranda of Democratic Party (DP) and Mr. Mohammed Katerega (JEEMA) have jointly called upon their respective party members at different levels to work together in fighting the spread of Covid-19 in Uganda.
The three Secretaries-General have also pledged to live by example as they continue guiding those at lower levels.
They made their commitment while talking to the media shortly after the launch of the food distribution program by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister in Kampala on April 4, 2020.
They have stated their willingness in shelving their political differences during this trying moment and concentrate all their leadership skills towards combatting Coronavirus.
“There can never be politics without people. We must secure the lives of the players before we get back into the ring to talk politics. We must be a team and it’s our wish that others emulate our example. I call upon the LCs to closely monitor this food distribution so that it reaches the targeted audience,” Lumumba said.
Dr Siranda said that politics can wait and so they are now a united force scoring in the same goal and at the end of the campaign, there will be no losers.
“I urge all members of the formidable Democratic Party to work with anybody around them regardless of our political colours, tribes or religion. It’s a war that cuts across borders,” he said.
Mr. Katerega said, “Its during such trying moments that unity counts more. As political parties, we may differ in ideology but human life sits top on our agenda. Corona Virus doesn’t discriminate colours and as a result our conserted efforts against it is paramount.
