KAMPALA-The speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is up in arms with the national taskforce on COVID19 relief food distribution saying its discriminatory.
She made the remarks while being hosted on NBS television on April 15,2020.
According to Kadaga there are reasons why the task force rushed food distribution without considering parliament’s advise on the distribution of food to vulnerable.
“Parliament had not initially agreed to the distribution of food because we did not know the criteria. The excuse they were giving was that the Kampala people have been affected by the lockdown. How about the taxi drivers in Jinja and Gulu?,”she asked.
She said the national task force on Covid19 might be having a different agenda spending taxpayers money recklessly without considering all vulnerable poor in urban centers in the country.
“With this decision, they are undermining the population because they have no plans to distribute the food elsewhere apart from Kampala and Wakiso. I suspect they wanted to solve someone’s financial problem,” Kadaga said.
Ms Kadaga noted that distributing food to only Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono is discriminatory because the current lockdown affects all vulnerable people across the country.
“Every town in this country is affected because we have these jobs distracted across the country. They did not want to listen, they wanted to spend the money,” said Kadaga.
