
KAMPALA-Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has suspended the importation and clearance of used textile products and used footwear.
According to a statement issued by the Manager Imports Inspection Andrew Othieno, the importation of these commodities has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
“The suspension follows the declaration of the Corona Virus disease (COVID-19), a global pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO), and in line with Uganda Standards US EAS 386:2005 and US EAS 356:2004,” he said in a statement.
He added that UNBS has an obligation to protect public health,safety and to ensure that consumers get quality products that match value for their money.
“The Bureau also has the mandate to promote fair trade,” Othieno said.
Mr Othieno further noted that the mandate is achieved through formaulation, implementation an enforcement of standards for both locally manufacturer and imported products for the Ugandan market.
