
WAKISO – More than 200 people are homeless after a cyclone hit Kinywante landing site on Bussi Island in Wakiso district on Saturday.
According to the Bussi Sub County chairman, Stanley Kabuye, the huge storm ravaged 35 homes, removed iron sheets and dumped them over two kilometers away.
He added that about 50 people children and adults were severely injured and admitted to different clinics.

Mr Kabuye added that over 200 hundred people are now homeless children and adults with no shelter, blankets,food items, clothes, mattresses and other home needs.
He said better medical conditions and shelter are required to cater for the hundreds of affected people.
“But there is need to evacuate some patients for more specialized care. I am in touch with leaders at the central government level and there is hope there will be action,” Kabuye said.
Wakiso district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Luke Lukoda a team from the headquarters has been dispatched to the Island to assess the situation.
“We are coordination on ground and we will be filing a report for the Office of the Prime minister (OPM) to provide emergence support to our people. Tight now we don’t know the number of households affected but we understand they are many,” Lukoda said.
He said there was an urgent need for shelter and food for the affected people and he hoped after registering specifically affected people the OP will act swiftly.
