KAMPALA — Uganda’s confirmed coronavirus cases have risen to 55 after one more case was registered today Tuesday April 12 according to the Director General Health Service at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Henry Mwebesa.
Dr. Mwebesa said of the 625 samples tested on Tuesday, only one tested positive — a truck driver from Kenya. The 38-year old hails from Tororo district.
A total of 372 truck drivers were tested on Tuesday and a second positive case, a Kenyan aged 27 years was sent home to recover near his family.
Dr. Mwebesa said the truck drivers tested arrived in the country on April 12, adding that the Ministry has started testing all cargo transporters arriving in the country at various border points.
The cumulative total of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country now jumps to 55 active infections, eight of which were discharged having fully recovered from the COVID-19.
Eighty-seven percent are imported cases, 11% are local transmissions while 2% have an unknown chain of transmission.
A total of 439 high-risk travellers (654 discharged) are still under institutional quarantine.
