KAMPALA – MP James Akena who is also the President of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has on Saturday, May 23, 2020, officially wished muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid al-fitr on his own and on behalf of the party.
“Asalam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh. On behalf of Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) and my own behalf, I congratulate you, our muslim brothers and sisters who have completed to fast the holy month of Ramadan,” UPC President Akena said.
“This is very much important for the Islamic faith and spiritual renewal!,” he added.
The Koran says, “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous”, Surat Baqarah 2:183. There have been therefore crucial spiritual lessons achieved throughout this holy month of Ramadan as muslims have humbled themselves before Allah, which has not only renewed their faith, but has also left “a spiritual legacy” to be reflected upon while carrying out day to day activities.
Though the fasting period has been quite challenging both in Uganda and rest the of the world due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions, the Muslims have been able to finish the fast of the holy month.
“We thank and praise Allah for having enabled our muslim brothers and sisters to complete the holy month of Ramadan in this most trying period of COVID-19!” Akena revealed in his congratulatory message to the muslim brothers and sisters.
After the fasting period, Muslim brothers and sisters are expected to forgive as well as extend a hand of friendship to humanity.
“May Allah accept your fasting and Zakat, approve your kind deeds, forgive your sins, and ease the suffering of all individuals around the globe!” he added.
As the Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate this unique Eid el-fitr at home, they are further requested to continue observing the basic health guidelines and avoid unnecessary movements that may trigger the spread of COVID-19.
