
KAMPALA – Kampala Catholic Archdiocese is in mourning following the passing of one of its priests.
Rev. Fr. Gerald JJuuko Sserwadda, 69, who has been serving at Mapeera-Nalukolongo Home, died on Friday, 12 June 2020.
“Dear people of God, with deep sorrow, the Archdiocese of Kampala announces the passing on of one of her priests, the Late Rev. Fr. Gerald JJuuko Sserwadda,” the archdiocese said in a statement..
Born on 15th February 1951 and ordained to the priesthood on 28th August 1979, Fr. Jjuuko has served the People of God in various capacities.
From 1979-1980, he was a teacher at Nswanjere Junior Seminary; from 1981-1985, he was a teacher at Kisubi Minor Seminary and 1986-1990; a teacher at Nyenga Minor Seminary. From 1990-1997, Fr Jjuuko was Manager of the Kyankwanzi Priests’ Ranch; 1997-1998: a Curate at Ndeeba Parish and Parish Priest of Lweza Parish from 1998-2006. From 2006-2008, he was a Parish Priest of Jjinja – Karoli Parish; 2009-2011: Curate at Ggombe Parish; 2011-2014: Parish Priest of Kibanga Parish; 2014-2016: Chaplain of the Good Samaritan Novitiate at Ttomi and 2016-2020: Mapeera-Nalukolongo Home.
Fr. Jjuuko will be laid to rest at Lubaga on 13th June 2020. The requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral at 1.00pm. However, due to the restrictions still in place, it will only be attended by a few selected people.
“We pray that the Almighty God may look upon the many years of Fr. Jjuuko’s tireless service, forgive him of any mishaps and grant him eternal rest in heaven,” the archdiocese posted.
