
KAMPALA – Former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Venansius Baryamureeba has been arrested for knocking and killing a pedestrian.
According to the deputy spokesman of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, Prof Baryamureeba’s car also hit a perimeter wall at Kibuli-Muyenga junction, Makindye division in Kampala on Wednesday.
“The vehicle registration number “U” being driven by Prof. Baryamureeba Venansius knocked two female pedestrians and a perimeter wall, killing one person on spot. The deceased was identified as Mariam Jagenda and her body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem,”Owoyesigyire said.
The car also injured another woman identified as Mariam Namusoke who has been admitted to Mulago hospital.
Mr Owoyesigyire said Prof Baryamureeba is currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station as investigations continue into the cause of accident.
