KAMPALA – Seven senior Electoral Commission officials sacked by President Museveni on Tuesday could soon be arrested, PML Daily has learnt.
President Yoweri Museveni sacked Sam Rwakojo, the secretary general of the Electoral Commission (EC), with six other senior officials on the way out, PML Daily has learnt.
Also sacked is EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa, IT Director Namugera Pontius, Director Finance & Administrator Joseph Lwanga, Data Department’s Edgar Kasigwa, Network Administrators Jordan Lubega and Musuza Charles and Godfrey Wanyoto who has been heading procurement.
And now this website has obtained information to the effect that the affected officials could soon be arrested by the State House Anti Corruption Unit and prosecuted in courts of law.
According to highly placed sources, the officials are being ejected for inflating the budget for the 2021 elections as well as other procurement scandals.
According to sources, the President got wind of information that the officials inflated the budget for purposes of saving enough money for themselves after the election.
Mr Museveni is said to have done his own private investigations into the officials before taking action.
Rwakojo, according to sources, is also faulted by the President for ignoring the proposal that the Uganda Printing and Publishing Company UPPC and German company called Veridos be allowed to handle the printing of ballot papers and other electoral materials for 2021 elections.
Sources added that the President was furious that whereas this joint venture would save the country lots of money, EC bosses were not embracing it, allegedly with intentions to benefit from the deal.
