KAMPALA – Police on Thursday deployed outside the Kampala Serena Hotel, following reports that NTV was to host People Power’s Executive Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya.
Led by the officer in charge of operations at Kampala Central Police station, Ivan Nduhura, the police started the deployment at 4am. Despite the heavy police presence in the area, Rubongoya who was not wearing any of the People Power colours, was hosted on the NTV morning show without any interference.
Speaking on the talkshow, Rubongoya said he was not surprised by the police deployment, arguing that the regime is now scared of People Power movement.
He said the police probably anticipated that Bobi Wine was the only to appear on the show.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyago, however, denied knowledge of any deployment at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Over the last few weeks, police have been deploying at radio stations where Bobi Wine has been hosted. In Jinja last week, police fired teargas to disperse people power supporters who had escorted Bobi Wine after the show.
