
KAMPALA- President Yoweri Museveni has declared Saturday, August 29,2020 a day of national prayers and a public holiday.
According to Museveni, someone had a vision and God ordered him(Museveni) to organize a prayers day.
“A certain Ugandan came to me and told me that God had told him in a vision that I should organize National Prayers, scientifically organized, for God to deliver us from COVID 19,” he said in social media post.
He added that, “Therefore, by the powers given to the President of Uganda by Section 2(2) of the Public Holidays Act, I declare the 29th of August 2020, a day of National Prayers and a Public Holiday.”
The President further urged the public to stay in their houses or compounds and pray.
He revealed that he has invited a few religious leaders to Entebbe State House and pray together with his wife Janet Museveni as the public are watching on TV or listening on Radios.
Museveni further appealed to all Ugandans to join this massive act of supplication saying “Mushabe, muryaheebwa, musherure, muryazoora”,
He further quoted the Book of Matthew chapter 7 verse 7; “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
On May 4 President Museveni started easing some of the lockdown measures by allowing shops selling general merchandise ,shopping malls and hardware shops to reopen.
He also permitted motor vehicle garages and workshops for metal fabrication and furniture to reopen provided the operators wear face masks .
The President later allowed private cars and public transport also to resume after nearly three months of suspension.
In his last address the President allowed the reopening of arcades,salons but schools,churches ,mosques, bars remain closed.
