
MUKONO – Two men have been electrocuted to death while executing works on a distribution transformer in Wantoni, Mukono district.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the incident happened on August 7, at around 11 am.
The deceased have been identified as Moses Kasita and Jacob Mutalaga.
“The body of Kasiita was found at the scene in a UMEME van registration number UAZ 704Q and while that of Mutalaga was at Mukono International Hospital,” Onyango said.
He added that preliminary findings indicate that the deceased were putting on UMEME attires before the incident but we’re undressed and immediately after the electrocution.
“Uniforms for the deceased persons recovered from UMEME truck number UAA 286E, one uniform had the name Kasita Moses,” said Onyango.
Onyango further noted that there were no physical injuries observed on the bodies adding, “They were taken to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem as investigation continues.”
However UMEME Spokesperson Peter Kaujju says the deceased re not UMEME staff.
Kasiita is a non staff whereas Mutalaga is a Mutico Contractor according to Kaujju.
“Investigations into the matter by police and internal teams have commenced. Details will be shared when a full report of the incident is completed,” said Kaujju.
