NTUNGAMO – Ntungamo District leaders have accused Local Government minister Raphael Magyezi over ignoring their recommendations while splitting Ruhaama County to create Ruhaama East constituency.
The district leaders say the minister ignored their resolution when he opted to relocate Itojo Sub-county and Nyamukana town council to the newly created Ruhaama East.
According to Denis Singahache, the LCV Chairperson, the district council in 2015 resolved that Nyamukana Town council, Itojo, Ntungamo, Rwekiniro, Kafunjo and Nyarutuntu Sub Counties would remain part of the the original Ruhaama constituency, while Ruhaaama East, Rukoni East and west, Nyakyera Sub counties, Rwoho Town council, Kitwe Town Council and Nyakyera Town council go to the newly created Ruhaama East.
However, he said that he was surprised that this was not followed.
Mr Benon Kwesigabo, the Chairperson of Itojo Sub-county and acting Mayor Nyamukana Town Council, says they are petitioning parliament against the decision of relocating the two areas to Ruhaama East whose headquarters will be in Rukoni Sub County compared to Ruhaama which has headquarters at Nyarutuntu Sub County.
Ruhaama County MP Moses Kahima Mugabe says he was surprised by the resolution and received numerous complaints from the area residents.
Mr Magyezi says they have received the complaint from the district leaders which will be discussed.
