KAMPALA — Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has on Thursday September 10 lodged a heavy defamation lawsuit against rights city lawyer Andrew Karamagi over a missive on Facebook that claimed that the billionaire is among Uganda’s small groups of individuals holding power in organized crimes”.
Sudhir, the chairman of Ruparelia Group of Companies filed the complaint with the Civil Division of High Court in Kampala on Thursday, saying Karamagi’s “false and outrageous” claims, made in a missive published on Facebook, had caused him “severe emotional distress” and “mental anguish”.
Sudhir who is represented by Galisonga and Company Advocates contends that Karamagi’ statements were false and defamatory, and he can’t go unpunished.
He says that Karamagi used his know Facebook page to publish malicious propaganda— indicating that the businessman is one of Uganda’s small groups of individuals holding power in organized crimes, — claiming that “Sudhir’s reputation for unethical and unconscionable business practices needs no elaboration.”
“The plaintiff’s personal, diplomatic, social and business reputation had been seriously damaged and he has suffered considerable distress and embarrassment including numerous calls from family, colleagues, friends and peers and other concerned persons over the same post publicized by the defendant/Karamagi”, reads the suit drafted by Galisonga Advocates in part.
The case is yet to be allocated to a Judge who will fix it for hearing.
