KAMPALA – Incumbent Nyabushozi MP Col Fred Mwesigye has hailed the directive by President Museveni calling for a repeat of the NRM primaries in the area.
The President wrote to the NRM electoral commission chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi, ordering a re-run, saying that the September 4 primaries were marred by fraud and rigging.
Col Mwesigye had been declared winner in the poll where he was contesting against Wilson Kajwengye but it was later discovered that his 54,996 votes were more than those of the total number of voters in the area.
In response to the President’s directive, Col Mwesigye said: “I want to thank God for opposing those who opposed me, and fighting those who fought against me! For taking His shield and armour and coming to my rescue. For saving me. Those who tried to kill me have been defeated and disgraced! Those who plotted against me have been turned back and confused!”

Col Mwesigye’s statement in full:
Dear people of Nyabushozi, it is indeed true as said in proverbs says that the LORD hates people who use dishonest weights and measures.
I want to thank God for opposing those who opposed me, and fighting those who fought against me! For taking His shield and armour and coming to my rescue. For saving me. Those who tried to kill me have been defeated and disgraced! Those who plotted against me have been turned back and confused! They are like straw blown by the wind as the angel of the LORD pursues them! Their path is dark and slippery as the angel of the LORD strikes them down! Without any reason they laid a trap for me and dug a deep hole to catch me. but they have been caught in their own trap. I am glad because of the LORD; I am happy because he saved me. With all my heart I am saying to the LORD , “There is no one like you. You protect the weak from the strong, the poor from the oppressor.” Evil people testified against me and accused me of crimes I knew nothing about. They paid me back evil for good, and I sank in despair. But you have rescued me from their attacks; you have saved my life from these lions! I thank you in the assembly of your people; I praise you before them all. You haven’t let my enemies, those liars, gloat over my defeat. You haven’t let those who hate me for no reason smirk with delight over my sorrow. They do not speak in a friendly way; instead they invent all kinds of lies about peace-loving people. They accused me, shouting, “We saw what you did!” But you, O LORD , have seen this. You are righteous, O LORD , and have declared me innocent; you haven’t let my enemies gloat over me. You haven’t let them say to themselves, “We are rid of him! That’s just what we wanted!” Those who gloat over my suffering have been completely defeated and confused; Those who claimed to be better than I am have been covered with shame and disgrace. Those who wanted to see me acquitted are shouting for joy and say again and again, “How great is the LORD ! He is pleased with the success of his servant.” I will forever proclaim your righteousness, and praise you all day long.

I salute and thank His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda for your wise guidance. Secondly, I want to thank and salute the people of Nyabushozi for their overwhelming and everlasting love and support. Despite all the propaganda and lies that were circulating in Nyabushozi. I call upon the people of Nyabushozi to stand firm on the side of the truth. God has vindicated us. God bless you all turi abasinguzi kandi Rukundo Egumeho.
Ndi Hon.Col Fred Mwesigye, Member wa Parliament Nyabushozi.
