KAZO — National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi has declared Jenipher Muheesi as the party flag bearer for Kazo District Woman MP Parliamentary seat.
Economic Monitoring Minister Molly Kamukama came second with 16,715 votes followed by Ronah Ruranga Kemirembe with 13,288.
Ann Ruyondo followed with 9,039. Other candidates in the races were Leonida Sanyu Tukundane who got 2731, followed by Hope Kanjija Mbabazi who received 1533 votes, Moreen Karugaba got 1265 votes while Merab Kyamazima Milly only managed 1210.
“I, therefore, declare Jenipher Muheesi Abaho who has polled the highest number of polls as the duly elected flag bearer for Kazo District Woman Member of Parliament 2020,” Dr Tanga Odoi wrote after a recount.
Kamukama has joined a long list of massive ‘casualties’ for the big boys and girls.
The list also includes senior ministers and President Museveni’s yellow boys and girls.
For example, in Bushenyi, General Duties Minister Mary Karooro Okurut suffered an embarrassing defeat to newcomer Annet Katusiime Mugisha, who won in all sub-counties of the district, including Kyabugimbi, Kyeizooba, Bumbaire and Bitooma.
In Sheema, Science Minister Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye was defeated for the Sheema Municipality flag against former Commissioner for Customs at the Uganda Revenue Authority, moneybag Dickson Kateshumbwa.
In Koboko, Dr. Charles Ayume also floored Investments Minister Evelyn Anite.
Other who fell include Labour Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana, Simeo Nsubuga, James Waluswaka among others while others who went through are accused of altering declaration forms.
Embarrassed by the many episodes of violence, bribery and cheating by altering results in Friday’s ruling NRM Parliamentary flagbearer polls, President Museveni also party chairman early this week penned a missive asking those who have been cheated to come up with proof for the perpetrators to be prosecuted.
Mr. Museveni wrote:
“The shallow crooks still think they can bribe, can intimidate, can assault or can, even, alter results of the obvious that was witnessed by hundreds. This is an incredible shallowness”.
He added:
“The cheating in the NRM Primaries is over. Those who beat People, like in Bukono, are all in jail or on the run. Minister Rukutana is in jail and will be prosecuted. They will be fully accountable with robust charges: assault, attempted murder, murder etc”.
Mr. Museveni then invited cheated NRM primaries participating candidates to come forward and pin those who orchestrated cheating.
“Those who altered results will go to jail on forgery, fraud, subversion etc. and their forgeries will not stand. We do not even have to repeat the elections, except where they were not held. We simply need to audit what happened in each village” he wrote.
