
KAMPALA – Erias Lukwago was on Wednesday nominated in the race for Kampala Lord Mayor come 2021 amid tight security.
Thousands of Lukwago’s supporters accompanied him to the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, Kampala but police was closely following by while other men in uniform had deployed on the road leading to the venue. Lukwago is seeking a third term in the Lord Mayors’ office.
At some stage, police had to block the road to stop the huge numbers of people he had come with. This led to clashes with the supporters, with several arrested. Many had been at the nomination centre earlier, to wait for his arrival.
On the way, Lukwago kept waving at the supporters by the roadside.

At the nomination desk, Lukwago was proposed by Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa and seconded Nakawa MP Micheal Kabaziguruka. His nomination was thereafter confirmed by the Returning Officer.
Lukwago condemned how the police handled his supporters. He later ‘clarified’ that he is not seeking a third term in office like the media presents it, because one of his past two terms was sabotaged by the impeachment process he went through.
