NTUNGAMO — Ms. Naome Kabashira, who defeated the jailed Labour Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana for Rushenyi Country Parliamentary seat has for the first spoken out on the chaotic NRM poll— dissimissing claims that her victory has been annulled by party electoral commission.
“I would like to assure everyone, that there has not been any announcement or official communication nullifying our victory for Rushenyi MP Flag Bearer. I would like to urge all our supporters to disregard the falsehood being spread on various media platforms,” she wrote in a statement on Friday evening.
Kabasharira last week floored Minister Rukutana in the NRM primaries with 24,006 votes with the Minister managing 23,996 votes.
However, this website has learnt that voting did not happen in Rubaare sub-country of over 41 villages after the Registrar for the area, allegedly disappeared with the voters’ register.
But Kabasharira says reasons for not producing the register were not explained to contestants, and that despite the challenges, we were declared winners.
Speaking on the violence that ensued in the aftermath of the poll, Kabasharira, accused her competitor of fomenting violence in the Rubaare Sub Country.
Kabasharira’s comments came amid sharp tensions between the rival candidates over unrest in Rushenyi Country.
The two camps have in recent days been trading insults over clashes on Saturday September 5 that saw Mr. Rukutana arrested and charges with murder, assault, attempted murder among others.
