
WAKISO – The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced the closure of its office in Wakiso District after one of their staff tested positive for Covid-19.
In a September 9, 2020 letter NIRA said screening done at their various offices found a police officer attached to the Wakiso office with the virus.
“The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) would like to inform the public that following the screening tests conducted at our various offices, one (1) police personnel attached to the NIRA Wakiso District Office has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently under case management,” the letter reads in part.
The NIRA management added inl ine the Ministry of Health guidelines, they will now temporarily close the Wakiso office for disinfection.
“As we manage the situation, the NIRA Wakiso District Office has been temporarily closed to avoid any possible further spread of infections and will be reopened to the public on Wednesday 16 September 2020,” management stated.
Services that have been affected by the temporary closure include the issuance of National IDs, Issuance of birth and death certificates, Fresh registrations for National IDs, Replacement of lost, defaced, and damaged National IDs, and Correction of errors.
Management advised the public to access all other services at the nearest NIRA offices close for them except Issuance of National IDs for those who registered at the Wakiso Office.
