KAMPALA – In line with the request of the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Uganda Museum has September 17,2020 handed over the Vintage Limousine Rolls Royce to Buganda Kingdom.
This follows the cabinet approval by President Yoweri Museveni to donate the vehicle to the kingdom in 2019.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at Uganda Museum, the State minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi said that this is in fulfillment of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Central government and Buganda Kingdom.
“We hope the kingdom will keep it as a memorial treasure and will provide access to the rest of Ugandans for viewing and enjoyment.”
The Vintage Car was handed over to Prince David Wasajja on behalf of the Kingdom ending years of mistrust between the two agencies since the central government was claiming ownership of the car.
The Rolls Royce bought in 1964 by the government of Uganda was used by the first president of the Republic of Uganda Ssekabaka Mutesa II.
The vehicle was transferred to the Uganda Museum from the State House in 2013 as a vintage object that needed to be preserved.
