KAMPALA – The proprietor of Teso Coach Bus Company has succumbed to Covid-19.
Faustine Etilu, 59, died on Tuesday at Mulago national referral hospital in Kampala after being transferred from Soroti regional referral hospital
Etilu’s young brother, Jovan Odikor confirmed the news.
“He was taken to Mulago last evening (Monday). I got a report from Mulago that he is dead after being on oxygen for five days or so,” Mr Odikor said.
Odikor said Etilu, 59, was transferred to Mulago after Soroti regional referral hospital was hit by shortage of medical oxygen.
Sources said Soroti regional referral hospital was hit by unreliable supply of medical oxygen and hospital mangers had been travelling over 100km to Mbale to pick the supplies.
Etilu’s death brings the number of Covid fatalities at Soroti regional referral hospital to six.
Etilu was an ardent supporter of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). He was one of the few businessmen who, in 2016, partly bankrolled NRM campaigns in Teso sub region.
Etilu is survived by 18 children, some whom he had groomed into the business spectrum by the time of his death.
Uganda has so far registered 133 COVID-19 deaths, with 14,574 cumulative infections.
