
KAMPALA — Mr. Stephen Mwanga, a senior editor at Parliament of Uganda was on the weekend elected President of Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU), in a scientific Annual General Meeting held at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
Mwanga polled 32 votes beating rivals Eddie Oketcho, 24 votes, and Julius Wandera who managed to garner 8 votes.
The hybrid event, in compliance with the Covid-19 SOPs, saw the association elect other leaders, Tina Wamala–Vice President, Allen Ssempa-Secretary General, Kezia Koburungi–Deputy Secretary General and Jackie Tahakanizibwa – Programmes Director.
The AGM also elected Lyn Tukei as Director of Public Relations, Charles Nsamba as Treasurer, Yvonne Mpanga as Director Discipline and Joseph Kakooza – Student Representative.
In a statement, on Monday, PRAU outgoing President, Ms. Sarah Kagingo said at the 44th AGM members reviewed the association’s performance over the past two years, approved new policies and recommendations contained in the Annual Executive Report, and received the audit report.
Kagingo also congratulated the incoming Governing Council upon their election into office and said she was confident that they will maintain the momentum in taking PRAU forward

“Appreciation also goes out to the entire PRAU family for support to our leadership over the last two years,” Ms. Kagingo said, adding that, over the coming days, an official handover will be held where the new GC will receive instruments of leadership.
“We shall be handing over a financially solid and vibrant association, that has a five-year strategic plan, increased membership, strong partnerships and significant corporate goodwill”.
The PRAU AGM is the supreme decision making body of the Association that deliberates and formulates policies for the Association. It also puts into place or returns office bearers to any posts in the Governing Council.

According to the PRAU constitution, only fully paid up members can attend the AGM and participate in the election and they are the only persons eligible to elect or be elected to any post.
PRAU was founded in 1976 as an umbrella organization of all public relations practitioners and professionals in Uganda.
It is affiliated to other regional and global public relations bodies. The Association embraces local and foreign practitioners, and participates in local, regional and international forums to enable its members, develop capacity and attain a competitive edge in the business world.
