KAMPALA – National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has said the Electoral Commission is a toothless dog incapable of holding a free and fair election and demanded that Justice Simon Byabakama resigns from his role as the chairperson.
Addressing the media at the Electoral Commission headquarters on Tuesday, 15 December 2020, Bobi Wine accused the Electoral Commission of practicing double standards after he was summoned to answer accusations that he is defying health Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during campaigns.
He claimed that EC is not enforcing the health SOPs when it come to the NRM camp. The musician turned politician argued that the NRM Presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni should also have been summoned as well.
“Museveni and other NRM aspirants have also been pulling crowds at their campaigns,” Kyagulanyi said as he showed journalists pictures of what he says is evidence to his claims.
Kyagulanyi further accused the Electoral Commission of trying to frustrate his campaigns by summoning him to meetings and ignoring the brutality from the police.
“I had to travel miles to get here (EC) today and I will have to miss a few campaign venues on my trail,” Kyagulanyi who is expected in Kiruhura and Ibanda lamented.
“I take this opportunity to put it straight to the EC Chairperson that when we were illegally blocked from consultations, there was no #COVID19 it was the Public Order Management Act. Now, it is #COVID19 that has been weaponized. We have come to believe that this is a scripted agenda against us. We raised these matters to the Electoral Commission, nothing was done. It is not until candidate Museveni came out to say he is not happy with EC that it came out to write to us. We reminded them that we have been blocked from using main roads, having access to hotels but EC hasn’t done anything in that regard,” he added.
