KAMPALA – Court is set to give its ruling on Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s habeas corpus on January 25, 2021.
Bobi Wine who came second in the just concluded presidential election with 34%, has not left his home which is surrounded by police and army since he went out to vote on January 14, 2021.
The Presidential candidate who is not even allowed to see his family members, friends, lawyers, and doctors has since rejected the results and seeks to challenge it in courts of law.
On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, the opposition leader’s lawyers led by Anthony Wameli and Geoffrey Turyamusiima filed for a habeas corpus before the High Court in Kampala, arguing that the continued illegal detention of Kyagulanyi and his wife is an infringement on their rights to personal liberty
However, two Justices Esther Nambayo and Musa Ssekaana denied to hear the application claiming that they are already handling cases involving the party National Unity Platform (NUP), saying that in order to avoid conflict of interest they will not handle more related cases.
According to lawyer Wameli, their case is going to be ruled by Justice Michael Elubu.
