KAMPALA – Former Presidential candidate Robert kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has on Sunday morning paraded a brand new bullet proof vehicle that he says was bought by his supporters.
Bobi Wine’s campaign trail was characterised of scuffles with security where on several occasions live bullets and teargas were fired. As a result, some of his agents lost lives and several others still nursing wounds.
“There is group of comrades who kick-started a fundraising campaign for a bullet proof vehicle. These comrades informed me of their plan, but I thought it was an uphill task, given how expensive it is. A few weeks ago, these comrades surprised me when they informed me that they had succeeded in raising enough money for the vehicle, and here it is. I can’t THANK YOU enough,” Bobi Wine said in a Facebook post.
“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate all friends in Uganda and abroad who have continued to support us in this struggle for freedom and democracy,” he added.
Bobi Wine who came runner up in the just concluded polls says that from the time his campaign team was attacked with live bullets and “particularly when a projectile hit Dan Magic smashing his face”, many Ugandans out of concern sent him bullet proof vests and ballistic helmets, which he put on throughout the campaign period.
“Indeed, if I did not have one on in Masaka, the story would be different.”
He also lauded his supporters here and abroad who supported his campaign financially, “to a point that we never lacked anything on the campaign trail.”
Bobi Wine dismissed allegations that he is funded by foreigners, saying that his party is fully supported by Ugandans.
“Contrary to what Gen. Museveni and his spin-masters love to say, this struggle to-date continues to be supported by Ugandans here and abroad. We are very, very grateful. Without your effort and support, we would never have been able to come this far.”
