
KINSHASA – The Italian ambassador to Kinshasa was shot dead on Monday in an attack that targeted a convoy of the World Food Program – WFP during the envoy’s visit near Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Rome, confirmed.
Ambassador Luca Attanasio ‘died, immediately of his wounds,’ he sustained, according to senior diplomate based in Kinshasa, who added that two other people were also killed during the attack.
“It is with deep sorrow that the Farnesina confirms the death, today in Goma, of the Ambassador of Italy to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luca Attanasio and of a soldier from the Carabinieri,” read the ministry statement in parts.
