
KAMPALA – Ex NTV Uganda journalist Dean Lubowa Saava has been arrested on accusations of blackmail, offensive communication and cyberstalking.
According to Charles Twiine, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, Lubowa was arrested following a complaint by the State.
Twine said that following the complaint, the cybercrime officers tracked the social media platforms purportedly used to commit the crime and verified that they belonged to the suspect.
In some of the stories, Saava accused a one Capt Kasami and singer Eddy Kenzo of recruiting young people into homosexuality.
He also blackmailed city businessman Balaam Barugahara of grabbing Namasagali school’s land.
After Saava’s arrest, Balaam said the journalist will have to prove his blackmail against him and other people.
“Dean Lubowa Sava kawedemu the time is now to Prove your black mail claims against God’s good People. Prove to the world your black mail extortation claims of the People like Kasami, billionaire Dr Sudhir, Blaam and Afande Mugenyi,” he noted in a Facebook post.
In 2018, Lubowa was arrested on allegations of fraud, human trafficking and obtaining money by false pretense from Ugandans seeking jobs abroad.
