KAMPALA – Bukedea Woman MP and fiancé to Fufa boss – Eng. Moses Magogo, Anita Among was on Monday declared winner of the office of Deputy Speaker of the 11 parliament of Uganda – ending earlier tears, which had resulted from the trashing of Rebecca Kadaga as the supremo of the country’s legislative assemble in an election that was conducted at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Among’s pregnancy victory – occasioned with 415 supporters – meant that the loss of former speaker – Kadaga wasn’t a total loss – because both women come from the East. It should also be recalled that Magogo is a known brain child of the former speaker.
Among, the NRM’s flag bearer out competed her rivals, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, an Independent candidate who polled 24 votes, and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Yusuf Nsibambi who polled 35.
According to the results announced by the newly elected Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, a total of 481 votes were cast, while invalid votes were 7.
Oulanyah went ahead to declare Anita Among who got the majority vote as the new Deputy Speaker.
Oulanyah who was chairing the house for the first time as a Speaker of Parliament congratulated the MPs and hailed them for the patience they exhibited, stating that the future was bright if this was what is to go by.
Among, 47, is an accountant and a lawyer by profession who has served in the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting, and a Masters’ in Business Administration from Makerere University. Among also holds a Bachelor of Laws from Kampala International University and Postgraduate degree in Banking from Uganda Martyrs University.
