KAMPALA – Doreen Nyanjura has for the second time been appointed as Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor.
The Makerere University female councillor has been reappointed by his boss Erias Lukwago.
“I invoke powers vested in the office of the Lord Mayor under sub section 3 of section 9 of the KCCA Act 2010 to appoint councilor Doreen Nyanjura as deputy Lord Mayor,”Lukwago told the KCCA council which was holding it first sitting on Wednesday afternoon.
He then presented Nyanjura to the council for approval as required by the law and was in turn unanimously approved as the new deputy Lord Mayor for Kampala.
Nyanjura was first appointed to replace Sarah Kanyike in June 2020.
This was after Kanyike being appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as director gender, community service and production at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) before she was transferred as State Minister for Elderly and Persons with Disability.
Lukwago after gave Kanyike up to June 18, 2020, to declare her stand on whether she was accepting the position.
However, the day reached without Ms Kanyike declaring her stand.
As a result, Lukwago announced Nyajura in the new position at a press conference in Kampala.
According to the KCCA Act, the Lord Mayor appoints his deputy and the council simply approves his choice.
